You can now work on a complex mapping with the ease of mind that you can always go back in time, like Doc & Marty. Sometimes you need to fiddle the sliders until it’s pixel perfect. This is incredibly handy because video mapping can become quite complex and is not always an exact science. Undo (yes really) In the advanced output you can now undo (and redo) all your actions. Zoooooomin With stages becoming bigger and LED resolutions going up it’s now easier to get everything pixel perfect by zooming in to your slices as far you need to make the final adjustment. Throughout the night I start attaching automation to the different parameters which I think have been working for that show (again, keeping it with the beat is great so I try to tap tempo in Resolume quite often. This give you the ability to slowly change the parameters over the night and keep the whole show dynamic.Īutomation is sort of the ultimate thing (in my opinion). Then you control that macro with a knob on your controller. Then, set the range for these parameters so that the 'end points' (mins and maxs) of the whole range looks good. More concretely, I recommend using the macro controls in Resolume which allow you to attach multiple effect parameters to one control (one knob). Knobs are nice to change parameters for different effects you're using. Often I try to keep everything in time with the DJ and i'll even use Ableton inbetween my controller and Resolume so that once I get a sequence I like, I can record it and loop it (thus freeing my hands for other things and/or letting me go to the bathroom). Kind of like having a drum pad that has video instead of audio samples. To do this I try to map my controller in a way that lets me follow the beat. In general when i'm running projections for a DJ, my goal is to create a sympathetic or coherent visual experience to accompany the music. What visual experience are you trying to achieve?
